United V QPR Match Guide

There's no doubting that seven wins on the spin for United is championship form - in fact, the Reds have now racked up 10 victories and one draw (Chelsea away) from the last 11 fixtures in the league. There were three consecutive defeats in the Europa League but the focus domestically has been spot on. Meanwhile, Queens Park Rangers have only accrued two points from their last nine Barclays Premier League fixtures on the road since winning at Stoke. However, Mark Hughes' charges have boosted their survival hopes with shock home successes against Liverpool and Arsenal.
Ins and outs
Nani is ready to return for United after a full week of training, but Anderson and Michael Owen are still unavailable, as are . long-term absentees Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher. Ashley Young will hope his impressive stint as a substitute at Blackburn will earn him a recall. As for QPR, former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse is suspended but Heidar Helguson and DJ Campbell look likely to be ready to return after groin and hamstring injuries. Federico Macheda is out after an ankle operation but the on-loan Ranger would have been ineligible in any case. Kieron Dyer and Alejandro Faurlin are sidelined.

Famed for their stylish and successful football throughout the early 1970s, they have not lifted silverware on the continent since the 1995 Champions League triumph. Domestically, they're the title holders but a recent run of poor form has left them sixth in this season's Eredivisie. Anders Lindegaard: The Dane was a virtual spectator, limited to routine jobs like collecting Bolton's first corner.
Rafael: Showed a willingness to go forward, and linked up well with Valencia down the right. Made a brave block to deny Martin Petrov, and also made an important goal-line clearance with the score still at 1-0.
Rio Ferdinand: Solid performance from the long-serving defender. One fine run which included a nutmeg on an opponent had the crowd chanting his name.
Jonny Evans: Looked confident on the ball and was prepared to drive forward when the opportunity allowed. Along with Ferdinand, he kept the Bolton attack largely quiet.
Patrice Evra: The captain's positioning was usually spot on at the back; was relatively quiet going forward but went close with a header from a corner.
Antonio Valencia: A superb attacking and crossing display from the Ecuadorian. He constantly found space wide on the right, and supplied a clever throughball for Welbeck to win the penalty.
Michael Carrick: An assured performance featured some excellent passing - for example, a perfectly-weighted ball to set up Welbeck for an early chance. Capped a fine display with an accurate sidefoot finish for United's third goal.
Paul Scholes: Talk about a dream return to OT! The midfielder's name generated the loudest cheer prior to kick-off, and he rewarded the fans by opening the scoring from close range on the stroke of half-time.
Nani: Saw a dangerous cross palmed away by Bogdan, and worried the Bolton back line with his direct running. Was involved in the first goal and looked bright.
Wayne Rooney: After seeing his penalty well saved, he worked hard to make amends, and his persistance to force a way through the Bolton back line led to Welbeck's goal. Could have had a goal himself when he prodded Valencia's cross wide on the stretch.
Danny Welbeck: Tested Bolton keeper Bogdan, and made an intelligent run to win the spot kick. Showed plenty of energy and hard work, and tracked back well to make tackles. His goal was precisely finished and well deserved.
Subs
Ji-sung Park (for Scholes, 69): Looked lively after coming on and was a willing runner. Took up some good attacking positions in the box.
Ryan Giggs (for Nani, 69): Showed some neat touches, with one inch-perfect crossfield ball to Valencia. Claimed an assist when he set up Carrick's goal.
Javier Hernandez (for Welbeck, 78): Came on after Welbeck was injured while scoring, and almost netted himself when he met yet another Valencia cross.

Ins and outsThe manager has dropped plenty of hints about his possible team selection. The Da Silva twins, Ezekiel Fryers and Chris Smalling could all play with Mame Biram Diouf and Federico Macheda also promised a run-out. Paul Pogba, Darron Gibson and Ravel Morrison are in contention for midfield spots while Ben Amos is expected to play in goal. Palace will be without on-loan defender Dekel Keinan as he is cup-tied after representing Cardiff in earlier rounds. Another loanee, striker Chris Martin, should be available.

There was stalemate at Selhurst Park in March, 2005, as Palace held out for a draw despite Vassilis Lakis being sent off after 64 minutes. Big guns Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Scholes came off the bench but there was no way past home keeper Gabor Kiraly.

Wilfried Zaha imay be a talent but much of the Eagles' best work has been in defence of late and Nathaniel Clyne is a full-back with a big future. The 20-year-old was npower Player of the Month for October in the Championship and made his England Under-21 debut in the recent victory over Iceland. Freedman will be aware of the need to fend off Barclays Premier League interest in the youngster when the January window opens.

United’s hopes of topping Group C in the UEFA Champions League were dealt a severe blow by a 2-2 draw against Benfica on Tuesday, meaning the Reds must now avoid defeat against FC Basel to ensure qualification to the last 16. Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are encouraged by some solid domestic form though, following three consecutive wins and clean sheets in the Barclays Premier League.
